Leslie Lightbourne, Master Gardener from Sumter County Extension Service, was the guest speaker at CGC Saturday, March 2, 2019. Leslie topic was “Florida Friendly Flowering Shrubs. ” Free to the Public.
As part of Leslie’s presentation, she gave pointers on where to plant shrubs, sun/shade, space needed, depth of hole, and root distribution. When shrubs are established, they don’t need much water. Examples of flowering shrubs that are good for our area are Azaleas, ‘Little Volcano’ Bush Clover, Thryallis, Oakleaf Hydrangea, Buttonbush, Camellia, Firebush, and Tropical Hibiscus, to name a few.
Like any plant, Leslie encourages gardeners to “Plant the Right Shrub in the Right Place.”
